Last days in DUVA house

published on 21 July 2007 at 01:27

It seemed that this moment was never meant to come, but now here we are. After eight years we are leaving DUVA’s house. Even writing it seems so strange. Could be because it’s the only house I’ve lived since I came to Bologna, could be because, thanks to all that lived there (and they are a lot!), the house had its own soul. From the first stable “leccese” group of only guys for about three years with Lollo, Gianluigi, Oscar, Davide we passed to Arianna, Shlomit, Nuria, Togna, Begona, Laura, Jan ( Lollo still calls him Giomme), Victoria, Holly, Carlos, Ele, Fede, Maria e Nicole… without counting the past and present habitue’ such as Ilaria, Susi, Pio, Michele (who used the shitter of the house more than me), Gigi, Giacomino… Lots of memories therefore, lots of thoughts in the head.
Although wakening-lunch time today, stangely, we were only us five of the house. Just all of us (situation that never happened!). In reality Nicole was missing, the sixth flatmate who lived with us in the last two months, but also her was a fugitive. I say also because, strangely, today, of the many people that usually pass by everyday, NO ONE WAS SEEN!
OLIVETTI M40: Obviously!They smelt work!
…but…how is that possible? where did you connect from?
OLIVETTI M40: I found a wireless net with FON from the new house…and here I am!I’m semi-blind (since you dismantled my monitor), I cannot see pictures and videos, but I can decrypt the text.
Don’t worry, I will fix you next week! It’s days that I have been working like crazy the whole day: today moving wardrobes with a track, yesterday getting them off…
A big surprise, anyway, Federica ( known as “Ucc”because she eats like a little bird) was transformed in “Uccio”, a wardrobe transporter with “big balls”!IN FEW DAYS, WHEN I WILL GET MY STRENGTH BACK, I WILL POST THE PICTURE OF THE TRANSFORMATION
She got so much into the part that during the “break” she downed a litre of beer!
In conclusion of this post, since I’m in a hurry because tomorrow at 8:30 I have to overdo packages and wardrobes for about twelve hours, here is the list of what I will miss the most from the house:
1. The dirty dishes, withouth a doubt as first place!
2 The sweet noise of the air conditioners of the solarium underneath
3. The pile of garbage Naples style
4.The flooding due to the washing machine from which we all forgot at least ten times to attach it to the drainage
5. The traffic of via Massarenti, similar to this video

and for sixth and last (because for last we always keep the best one), our neighbours.
They are so much in my heart that I decided to dedicate them a song called “shittyneighbours”(following Bolognademerda) but I didn’t have time.
So it’s for their happiness and to say a friendly goodbye to them that tomorrow (saturday 21) there will be a goodbye party (together with Maria’s birthday!).
Here is the program of the night:
TERRACE: “Auction of useless things”, exceptional auction beater, our friend Adam Selo
MARIA’S ‘N UCC’S ROOM: space for little concerts, readings and several performances. Follows our dj set .
Anyway everyone is invited. I’ ll see you saturday from 20 p.m. and on. Bye. Gabriele

Different updates made

published on 8 July 2007 at 03:36

If you logged in during these days, you probably noticed that the site went crazy (like confused pages and so on…). Anyway, now most of the updates are finally done.
With Mozilla Firefox the visualization is perfect, I’m trying to optimize everything also for Internet Explorer, but there is still some difect that I will solve as soon as possible.
As you surely noticed, I modified the template ( even if Rollino strongly disagreed). The main page is in black and white so that the pictures and videos (especially the ones of the paintings) are less affected by the influence of the background. If you look well at the bottom of the page, it comes out directly from my OLIVETTI M40 ( who complained offline about the little visibility of the site). To visualize better the font of the typewriter you have to install Lettera32 (download it here and save directly in the folder C:\WINDOWS\Fonts). Concerning the sidebar on your right i tried to make it look more technological and full functional.

OLIVETTI M40: Not to say that Rollino was right, but it seems to me that the technological sidebar and the main page as a piece of paper make a bit of contrast!
Ok, it’s true, but that’s what I really meant to do. The contrast makes the charachteristic of things stand out even more, making them immediate, usable and understandable, raising as a fact our perceptions. I have to say that I always liked contrasts!Fuse the “unfusable”, find a point which makes in contact opposite concepts! You, as a 40’s typewriter provided of a monitor LCD, Internet connection and several technological modifications, are an example!
OLIVETTI M40: Therefore you like me!I noticed that you were touching my keys in a weird way…help!!!!
If I have to, I would say instead, that it’s you that, thinking “maliciously”, overheat each time that I write a post…
OLIVETTI M40: Helppppp!!!!!!Do you think this is the way to talk to an old typewriter? You deserved to be beaten up, pervert!
First of all I was not beaten up and secondly let’s stop saying bullshits. Therefore, I was saying that there are always contrasts, it’s us that don’t realize it because our senses have a limit which permits us to perceive simply a “standard”!Let’s put the case of mixing black and white glass beads. If these beads are smaller than our limit of eyesight, we will see grey, therefore between the two colours!
OLIVETTI M40:Ah, I understand, it’s the priciple used by “punctualists”!

Seurat - La Parade (detaglio)seurat

Always remember, though, that this is an approximation. The “standard”, if used in an inappropiate way, is dangerous! For example the citizens of a rich nation (so with a high GDP) have an income per capita (PPP). Now I don’t understand how this value which does not take count on how this wealth was distributed, is generally taken as index of wealth of a nation!
OLIVETTI M40: dfnisdguosdgbu drghbtdhxxswxnw x wq wxqww xwec
Mhh, the typewriter is going mad…we will talk another time about the concept of “contrast” and of “media”.
Anyway going back to our sidebar, I added:
a chat in which you can write messages or things not about the posts,
The feed and l’RSS that you can follow,
the connection to Technorati,
the “cloud” of the categories,
posts and recent comments…
The bloroll (which is the list of all the interesting links) was moved to the page”a bit of links…“.

The other modifications cannot be seen, but they are needed for the functioning of a good site or for a better index or visibility (ex. twitter). I went a bit crazy to make all of this…
OLIVETTI M40: crazy like him?..

OLIVETTI M40: Or like him that, since the printer was not working correctly, decides to print directly the screen of the monitor!!

Yes, more or less, but without the white shirt and tie. I found excellent advices in the blog of Andrea Beggi though. After, you might think it’s strange, but some tips on how to do the things arrived directly from Jesus.
Now it’s time to leave you before that everything blends. See you soon. Gabriele

Urban blight in Bologna: drink a beer or break it on someone’ s head…

published on 2 July 2007 at 21:21

On Saturday I finished lab. These were months quite enough tiring, but in the end it was worth it. There are results and they are good as well! Therefore going out was a must. Finally with the mind free and especially without alarm clocks for the morning. So I decided to go to the “Margherita gardens” to meet some friends that were there to celebrate a girl who was leaving. A bit of chit- chat, some beers, the garden, a guitar, the “delirious” improvisations of Nino… so a chilling and relaxing atmosphere.
At the beginning.
After a while, though, a group of guys from Marocco came threatening close to us.
OLIVETTI M40: It’s always them! Bastards!
Eh, no, though! As W.Blake claimed “Generalizing is for idiots!”.
OLIVETTI M40: They are all delinquents!
I’m sorry, but my typewriter has been for more than seventy years downstairs in the storage room and did not have any contacts with the world around, therefore she doesn’ t know what she is saying! In every population there are good and bad people (and after what is “bad” if not a consequence of a social failure). For example the italians in America were not all in the “mafia”. As the majority of the people from Marocco in Italy is reliable and working people.
So anyway, going back to the subject about that night, these guys came straight to look for a fight, without any kind of reason.
Pushing, punching, kicking, people on the floor and glasses that were flying. After we realized that this was all a plan to steal something taking advantage of the chaos caused (theory comfirmed by the fact that they tried to take a mobile from the hands of a girl).
Infact, if things were going to go wrong (since we were more than them), there were all of their friends spread around the gardens ready to attend. And as a matter of fact after 10 minutes four or five of them arrived, and one was under the effect of who knows what kind of drug started threatening us with a a bottle in his hands. So we went away and after the police arrived ( that in the while someone had called).

Pio of InFormeDimesse

Results of the night: Pio (in the picture) would not get laid for a while (since in that mess he lost his “cool glasses that made him look so “intellectual” and as he says they were his “attraction point”); some other guys in another group who were a bit further away from us were threatened with a bottle, attacked and robbed completely; some other people, before it happened to us, caught them while they were trying to steal their bags crawling on the floor so they wouldn’t be seen.
Now, this is only one of the cases that lately are happening in Bologna. And for sure it’s not the most serious (thinking about the several rapes).
My disappontment is that the people from Bologna “has it” with the students! Complaining about the noise, the pee and the beers! And all the police are either in “Piazza Verdi” or “Piazza Santo Stefano” to gurantee silence!
A beer can be drank or broken on heads! There is someone that calls urban blight both of the things! Let’s begin to make a difference!!!
A small article came out on Leggo of today (at the bottom of the page to the left). See you. Gabriele
